Oct. 22, 2007 Should I celebrate Halloween? Is Halloween the devil’s holiday?
This article is likely too long to put here, so here's the link. {I know! I know! Some are going to yawn ~ "we've heard it all before", but this particular article opened my eyes in a whole new way! Bottom line: do we want to please God & do what He says ~ or not?} Please PRAYERFULLY read, "Should I Celebrate Halloween?" written by Dr. John Barnett http://www.discoverthebook.org/sermons_read.asp?id=1412
UPDATE: Ah man!! I wish I would have copied the entire article for reference purposes — it’s gone now…. But apparently you can hear it here: http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Discover_the_Book/archives.asp?bcd=10/31/2008
My own experience: I celebrated Halloween when growing up [didn't know anything about it, saw it as harmless, although even back then pins were being put in candy; cars & houses were getting egged, etc. even “back then” when life was relatively tame & mild compared to these evil days]
Then as an adult: we made sure the porch light was off & did not participate in it at all over the past 20 some years. Then, once we moved to an area where there are TONS of kids & the guy we bought the house from told us how he went "all out" on Halloween ~ making a big deal out of it & told of all the “hundreds” of bags of candy he'd give out...... well, for that reason (with kids already accustomed to coming here to "get the good stuff" as they put it) ~ anyway, so with that, we changed our tune & gave out candy (AND TRACTS!!) over the last few years.
Honestly, the ONLY reason we've done this was b/c I was afraid, what with kids USED TO coming by here on Halloween, that we'd get the house egged or tp'd or the vehicle tires flattened or something. But then, ..... *GULP* ~ when reading this article & realizing that was part of the entire reason for Halloween, I expect we can find a better way to be "protected" [from above!!]
Now days: realizing the truly significant evil/darkness of the day, we leave the porch light off; we do not participate in any way. We pray for protection of children, adults, pets…. All such wonderful “sacrifices” for satan’s people!
Article snippet from John Barnett: To exorcise these ghosts, that is, to free yourself from their supposed evil sway, you would have to set out food – give the demons a treat – and provided shelter for them during the night. If they were satisfied with your treat, it was believed they would leave you in peace. If food and shelter were not provided, or if they were not satisfied, these spirits, it was believed, would “trick” you by casting an evil spell on you and cause havoc. /END
I've got all the stuff ready to go again this year, however, after having just read this article & the Scriptures provided, well let's just say I'm now "convicted" that it's not right to participate -- even if I was viewing it as an "outreach" (if you will) as an opportunity to "witness through the tracts".
Sooo.... Not sure what we're gonna' do with a bunch of Halloween candy, but I simply do not want to participate any more. For protection: I will pray Psalm 91 & ask for a "hedge of protection" to surround our home!!
I highly suggest that all Christians looking to please God with our walk read (and heed!) this article!
Should someone get the notion that I am a prune-faced legalistic who never wants to do anything enjoyable ~ then the BUZZER SOUNDS ~ wrong! BUT I believe our "fun" should be within the boundaries set by our Creator, and that we should have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness. I cringe though when I see the kids dressed up in the "scary & evil" costumes -- it's as though they are CELEBRATING evil & it grieves me that the parents don't know any better. {not only that, but they could be opening themselves & their kids up to demon manifestations, IMO} At any rate, Susan Fulton wrote this article following. I agree with it. I believe we should definitely pray for protection for ourselves & our families as we come into the season greatly celebrated by wiccans. ~~~ I don't watch too much television anymore, because of the violence and sexual over tones. the "bewitching hour" of Halloween draws near. With all of these horror movies playing constantly on all the channels, the effect will be felt. So, the Christians had better be in constant prayer, asking for God's divine protection from the forces of Darkness. Anoint you and your family with oil, and plead the blood of Jesus over you and your house. Toying with the things of Satan, is no laughing matter, It is very serious. The Bible says that we reap what we sow. /END of Susan’s report.
Just want to point out a few things for those who may be on the bubble themselves & can make a better decision by having more information.
1. One person says “If it feels right, do it” (or don’t do it, but go by what FEELS right SHE says….) but I just kept thinking there’s GOT to be Scripture that clues us in here – without our having to go by “feelings”
2. Another person advises (which is actually good advice to put on Christian music) ~ but then to “have fun” with it [passing out goodies at Halloween] ~ I dunno ~ I just cannot bring myself to “have fun” with something that clearly glorifies satan! It’s satan's high holy day, you know!
3. This same person also says we have freedom in Christ. I agree – up to a certain extent. We have freedom on how we choose to live our lives, how we will dress today, what we’ll eat at lunch, how we’ll respond to questions asked, etc. But the conflict comes when Scripture expressly tells us to avoid something! Then ~ there should be NO conflict at all, really. Scripture should trump each & every time! We do not have freedom to choose the wrong thing if it’s something that Scripture specifically addresses.
While praying about this & asking the Lord ~ “what do we do?” The Scripture just kept coming to me [goes to show the importance of hiding God’s Word in our hearts that we might not sin against Him! ~ the more of it we have in our hearts, the more of it the Holy Spirit can use to guide our lives] Anyway, the Scripture kept coming to me: “have no fellowship with the UNFRUITFUL WORKS OF DARKNESS” Ephesians 5:11 NO fellowship ~ means NO, NONE, ZIP, ZERO, NADA….. NONE!!!!
So with those words, I googled & came across oodles of sites. Perhaps someone here will find something helpful here. I know I did. And as a result, we will NOT be passing out treats, tracts, or anything at Halloween this year (or any other year). By this decision, it is our will to honor & please the Lord.
***** Chuck Missler says that for a Christian to celebrate Halloween -- that's like Holocaust survivors celebrating Hitler's birthday!! ***** Definitely good food for thought!
Anton LeVey, head of the worshippers of satan, said that he was glad the Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year.
Still on the bubble? Some Scriptures to consider ....

And I was even grossed out at the thought of slaughters, animal & human sacrifices happening on Halloween!! (wonder how often this happens ~ all in the name of "fun"!!) I'm telling you, Christians, we need to be praying! This could happen to someone we love!! http://www.libertytothecaptives.net/pray_on_halloween.html
[just FTR: I don’t have time to read every word of every site I surf; however did want to say that I agreed with everything I read at “liberty to the captives” about Halloween; however I totally disagree with their beliefs that they say Jesus will come POST-trib. That is definitely Biblically WRONG!]
